High School Credits / Requirements / Graduation / College

There are very specific non-negotiable requirements for graduation across all 50 states.
Some of those requirements vary only by whether a person has already chosen a specific college "track." That means if a person has already decided that they want a particular college degree, there are additional high school classes to meet entry requirements for that specific program. Those are usually more in the field of math and/or science. You can still choose to enter those degree programs (things like medicine, engineering, various sciences, etc.) -- You'd just have to make up those credits before you could get on with your major classes.

This blog entry is a work-in-progress. I'm pooling your transcripts and credits this week to see what you have and what's next. Then we will sit down together and go over the general plan.

Even though there are some specific classes in history, English, etc. -- I've been spreading those objectives across the curriculum rather than concentrating them in a one-semester class. Using experiential learning wherever possible, so you get CREDIT for ADVENTURE.

Tuesday

Household
When the food comes, put it on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator (with the watermelons).
Sweep thoroughly -- Lots of dirt everywhere.
Pick up your room.

Literature
Did you watch the video in the last blog entry?
Either update your GoodReads account or make a new one. This is where we'll be keeping track of your reading lists. Start entering the books you've read this year and last, e.g. Catcher in the Rye, To Kill a Mockingbird, etc. When you enter a few of them, it will automatically populate with most of the others. Unless you have another suggestion, your new book will be The Great Gatsby.

History

Yesterday was the anniversary of D-Day. Poppop was enlisted at the time, but always refused to talk about the war. Momo wouldn't talk about it either. Mom was one month old at the time.

BONUS:  Poppop was born on August 11, 1922. How old was Poppop on D-Day?

Try to imagine this was real, not a movie or a video game. (I saw a D-Day virtual reality game while looking for these and was appalled by the guy smiling while he "played" the "game.") These were young men who were scared like anyone would be, terrified, but did what they had to do. And every one of them had a family somewhere.

These are short. Please watch both of them without interruption -- no music, phone, etc.

***HEADS-UP: TODAY is Fort Worth -- Stella Retrospective, Magnolia at 7 (Botanic Gardens if the day allows)
Next week probably will be Dallas Arboretum and DMA (Irving Penn).
